Question #6
Voters will decide Nov. 2 whether to increase a countywide sales tax by 1⁄4 of a cent to go toward a new Allen County Hospital.
Members of the Allen County Healthcare Committee address questions about the issue.
Q: What is to be included in the new hospital?
A: The new hospital proposal includes a 60,000 square-foot building with 25 beds on a single level and a site several times larger than the present one for ample parking, helicopter access and future expansion.
Family-oriented birthing rooms are included and a majority of the rooms would be private with bathrooms that are wheelchair-accessible as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Expanded outpatient ser-vices would feature more space for physical, occupational and speech therapy. Separate walk-in and ambulance entrances are planned for the emergency room, which will be close to the surgery suites.
Energy efficient mechanical and electrical equipment would be specified to reduce operating costs. Improved access and convenient layout for patients, staff and the public would be designed also to improve staffing efficiency and coordination.
Finally, the new and visually appealing structure would provide Allen County citizens a modern healthcare option for decades to come.
