Question # 5
Voters will decide Nov. 2 whether to increase a countywide sales tax by 1⁄4 of a cent to go toward a new Allen County Hospital.
Members of the Allen County Healthcare Committee address questions about the issue.
Q: How much will the hospital cost Allen County voters?
A: Based on the level of profits made by the hospital in the last few years and the Medicare expense reimbursement now in place, there should not be much cost to Allen County voters. A 1⁄4  cent sales tax increase on purchases made in the county should do it.
The yearly impact on a family depends on the amount purchased subject to the tax. People who buy fuel, food and other items in Allen County, including those who work here but don’t live here, will see a change of 25 cents for every $100 purchase.
Over one year, $10,000 in purchases subject to the sales tax would increase by $25, or 7 cents a day.

If you agree with us and would like to help our voter information effort with your time or your money we can use both. We expect it to take several hundred volunteers to get the word out with only a few short weeks before the election. Jackson, Iola, KS 66749 or left at the Moran, Humboldt or Iola branches of Emprise Bank where we have our checking account.
