Saturday night Iola let its hair hang down with a twist and shout to the music of the Liverpool Legends.
The foursome play, dress and act like the real Beatles, the British rock band whose heyday was in the 1960s.
The popular act came to Iola on the heels of a summer stint in Branson, Mo., where they have been regulars for the past six years.
This year the Bowlus has gone all out to schedule sensational programs in recognition of its 50-year anniversary.
It was also 50 years ago that the Beatles debuted to mass hysteria in the United States on the “Ed Sullivan Show.” Which explains why the majority of the audience was on the other side of 60 or thereabouts.
Formative events that occur in our youth, between the ages of 14 to 24, tend to shape the rest of our lives, according to social scientists.
If you were 18 when the Beatles took the stage, that music will hold a sweet spot in your heart for the rest of your life.
The same can be said for politics. Those that came of age under the administration of Dwight D. Eisenhower were died-in-the-wool Republicans from there on out. Those who were in their teens to mid-20s during the Vietnam War saw the world through a different prism and their political leanings changed accordingly.
As we age, our emotions, and political persuasions, are less easily swayed.

SATURDAY brought back the world of “Yesterday,” “Hey, Jude,” and “Yellow Submarine.”
Next up is Iola’s own Cindy Summers on Nov. 7.  A 1975 graduate of Iola High School, Cindy has made a career on the stage, most notably portraying the country singer Patsy Cline. She’s also a heckuva torch singer with a sultry voice who is sure to please.
