[Readers’ forum] New hospital could boost local economy

I’m pleased with the turnout and results of Monday night’s meeting concerning the hospital. I feel that a new facility is the only way to go. The figures showed that a remodeled building would end up costing more than building new.
If the decision is made to build new, I support the fact that local builders, workers and materials be included in the facility. That is with the understanding that whoever gets the bid, some local people will be hired to work on the project. We do have good concrete workers, roofing company, general laborers, etc. This would boost our local economy.
I feel strongly that we need to keep HCA as our managing company. This would prevent HCA removing the present equipment and starting from scratch. If and when we get a reserve built up, we need to keep it for the hospital and not loan it out to other needs as is presently done with monies in the city, like robbing Peter to pay Paul.
