Who wants to close the low-water bridge over Elm Creek on State Street to fishing? We vote no.
We have lived south of the area for more than 50 years and average more than twice a day traveling into Iola. We usually check to see who is using the bridge. We have seen families with young children, handicapped people on crutches or in wheelchairs, area youths and other individuals. What a joy to see young teenagers on bikes with fishing poles in one hand and bait in their baskets headed for the area on a warm summer day to fish.
As far as erosion, after 50 years of observations, there has been very little. Maybe a little rock would help. Tax money could not go for a better cause.
If the area is being used at night by drug users maybe a little harassment by local law officials would change their minds.
Please don’t change one of the few accessible places for free entertainment for so many.
Please keep the area open.
