Thank you Iola!
Your participation in Earth Hour Iola exceeded my wildest hopes.
Over 100 individuals and over 40 businesses, schools and organizations from Iola registered online with the Earth Hour Web site, making Iola, by far, the most represented community in Kansas in terms of online registered participants.
Over 200 of you, according to some estimates, brav-ed the really lousy weather Saturday night to be present on the square for the “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark” unlighting ceremony.
And countless numbers of you participated by turning off your lights.
Earth Hour Iola was always about the Power of One — the realization that when one person does one small act to help conserve energy or resources, it might not seem like it makes much of a difference. But when that one small act is multiplied by many people doing it, it can make a big difference.
This Power of One was demonstrated by how each of your individual acts of registering online, or coming down to the square, or turning off your lights, when added together, made Earth Hour Iola a success.
To everyone that helped in any way to make Earth Hour Iola happen, thank you, thank you, thank you!
