To all who value the continued existence of your church, House Bill 2549 is now before the Kansas House Taxation Committee. The chairman is Richard Carlson.
If this bill is passed, it will do away with sales tax exemptions for churches and nonprofit organizations in Kansas. They also are discussing adding churches to the property tax roll, which would effectively close most small churches unable to pay $10,000-$20,000 in property taxes each year.
I urge you to contact Mr. Carlson or Sen. Derek Schmidt if you have concern about the future of churches in Kansas.
This could be voted on as early as Wednesday.
Contact Carlson by e-mail: richard.carlson@house.-ks.gov and Schmidt at derek.-schmidt@senate.ks.gov.
Joseph Hess,
