French women are launching a protest against the Monoprix supermarket chain for what they claim is sexist pricing.
Seems pink razor blades cost more than gray. Pink shaving cream more than white. And pain relievers tailored for menstrual cramps cost more than those aimed to fight a headache, though they contain the exact same ingredients for the exact same quantity.
According to a 2010 Consumer Reports article, the same price discrimination occurs in the United States as well.
Antiperspirants, eye drops and body washes also geared for women can be up to 50 percent more than those tailored for men.
Madison Avenue has done a wonderful job of convincing us women that because a product is pink it somehow is more suitable to our physiques.
Guilty as charged.
The solution?
Shop the men’s section.
