Dear editor,
Our family would like to convey our heartfelt thank-you to the community of Iola for the past five years. We were welcomed with open arms from the day we arrived. We are particularly grateful to Dr. Craig Neuenswander and the Board of Education for the confidence and opportunity that has been professionally provided to us. USD 257 has a staff that takes a backseat to no other district in Kansas.
The pride of this community as well as the willingness to confront all challenges head-on should leave no doubt in anyone’s mind that Iola will continue to shine.
Sincerely,
David and Jodi Grover
and family
Dear editor,
To Humboldt mayor and City Council:
After reading the City of Humboldt article in the May 15 Register, I was upset by the thinking of the city fathers. I, for one, am very much against a sales tax increase for street repair. In the past few years, when we work on streets, we never finish what is started. The job never gets completed.
I think we need to start on the top side, with new leadership. As I recall, we discontinued our trash service so there would be more for street repair. Having served on the city council, I understand the problems we have. We now have the highest sales tax in Allen County. People in the area already complain about our taxes. If we want to attract people and business, I don’t think raising the sales tax will help.
To the citizens of Humboldt, who care about their town, I believe it is time to speak up for what is right. Thanks to the people who give of their time to run the city, but let’s look around and smell the roses.
Don Mohler,
Humboldt, Kan.
