Editor’s note: The following letter was sent to former Iolan Jay Bass in response to his letter to the editor that appeared in Tuesday’s Iola Register.
Dear Jay and all of your family,
Thank you for taking the time to write the Register about your recent terrible experience in Iola. It was upsetting and embarrassing to many who read the letter to think that happened here. We hate that it happened and we apologize.
We realize that you know that 99.9 percent of the people in your hometown would never do that. The Bass family does indeed have roots in Iola going back over 100 years. Very, very few can say that and certainly few can have the pride you have in saying that.
There is nothing we can do to change what happened. We want you to know that your hometown still appreciates the Bass family and we want you to keep coming “home again” for as long as possible. You will always have “family” here.
Most sincerely,
Beverly Franklin, Iola City Council
Mary Kay Heard, chairman Iola Industries
Dear editor,
The Affordable Care Act has always been flawed, because it was based on profit, and not on saving people’s lives.
Donald Trump has said he will support Single Payer Health Care.
If he does, and does it quickly, it will benefit millions and millions of Americans.
The real question is, will Republicans do what’s in the best interest of the country, or will they simply do what they’ve always done — obstruct progress as a favor to the bloated insurance companies and big Pharma.
Tom Ellis,
Iola, Kan.
