Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach doesn’t believe that actions have consequences so he had no trouble rejecting the charge that the drastic anti-immigrant laws he helped craft in Arizona and Alabama were part of the reason Hispanics voted overwhelmingly for President Obama in November.
He also told the Associated Press that Democrats will always “endorse amnesty for illegal immigrants,” implying that the Republican Party may as well write off Hispanics and be content with their base.
Sec. Kobach has a national reputation as an anti-immigrant activist. Because he holds an important Kansas state office, Kansas gets tarred by that brush. Kansans who want our state seen in a better light, joined by the practical among us who are aware that Hispanic Americans are the fastest growing subset of the nation’s population, should send Mr. Kobach back to his university law chair in 2014.
The longer he holds a high position in Kansas government, the greater damage he will do to our state and to the Kansas GOP.
