Ira F. Johnson, 75, Le Roy, died Monday, May 13, 2013, at his home.
Ira was born Oct. 15, 1937, on the family farm southeast of Le Roy, the son of Milton and Hattie (Fowler) Johnson. He grew up in Le Roy.
On July 13, 1957, Ira married Melda M. Ward at Wesley United Methodist Church in Iola. They made their home in Le Roy two years before moving to Iola. They lived east of Gas for 30 years. Melda preceded him in death Dec. 21, 2005, and he moved to Le Roy a year later.
Ira worked as a mechanic for Smith Diesel & Equipment in Iola, owned and operated Johnson’s Tractor Repair and retired from Chanute Implement.
He enjoyed fishing, gardening, canning and mowing with his John Deere mower.
Survivors include four sons, Mike Johnson and wife Elsa, Liberty, Mo., Jim Johnson, Le Roy, Douglas Johnson and wife Yolanda, Towanda, and Scott Johnson and wife Brenda of Great Bend; one brother, Milton Warren Johnson, Burlington; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, grandson Ethan Scott Johnson and an infant brother Walter Johnson.
Cremation has taken place.
Memorial services are at 10 a.m. Saturday at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel in Iola.
