Nine area veterans from the Vietnam War remain faceless on the Memorial’s new “Wall of Faces” digital display.

Instead of a picture, a Gen. Patton-like drawing of a man in uniform accompanies the soldiers’ names, home towns, and dates of birth and death.

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund has put out the word to the nation’s newspaper associations to search for these veterans’ photos in an effort to better complete the project.

Those missing from Iola include:

H John A. Mott, born Jan. 13, 1944, died March 22, 1967

H John J. Harris, born July 3, 1948, died March 17, 1968

H Robert E. Goodner, born Dec. 8, 1949, died May 21, 1969

H Charles L. Troxel, born June 7, 1948, died Aug. 16, 1969

Humboldt:

H James F. Godsey, born Aug. 15, 1942, died Aug. 24, 1967

LaHarpe:

H Earl D. Hutton, born July 10, 1946, died Nov. 5, 1966

Chanute:

H William L. Schultz, born March 19, 1937, died Oct. 8, 1966

H Johnny R. Webb, born Feb. 9, 1944, died April 18, 1968

H Gary K. Stanfield, born June 17, 1949, died Sept. 14, 1969

Alongside the Vietnam Veterans Wall in Washington, D.C., are plans to build an education center that will include the digital display.

It will be an addition to the massive dark granite  sculpture, The Wall, by artist Maya Lin of Ohio upon which are engraved the names of the 58,286 soldiers who died in service for our country from 1961 to 1973.
