Congratulations to Allen County commissioners for the decision Tuesday to virtually eliminate a fee for use of the ambulance station by EMS officers.
Now that county and Iola ambulance services have merged, it made no sense to charge the City of Iola $250 in rent for the building, as the county had stipulated.
The gesture to charge a $1 fee, as is done in Humboldt, makes the rent official, and sends a bigger message of cooperation between the two entities.
It’s a great way to start the new service along with a new year.
Perhaps 2014 will be a year of conciliation. There’s no better place to start than right here, right now.
Allen County is a mere 13,319 in population, the size of a neighborhood in some cities.
Think of the economies, the results we could have if we worked as one.
Many employees think nothing of commuting 20 minutes or so to their jobs. And once inside the door, their focus is on a common goal.
The future of Allen County, its schools, its businesses, and the welfare of its citizenry, should be what we have our sights on. We need to think, work and play as a whole.
County commissioners have set the tone.
Let’s all get in step.
