No regular reader of the Register would mistake our support of Hillary Clinton throughout the presidential campaign and on Nov. 8.
Later, we reluctantly accepted Donald Trump as president-elect, soundly confirmed by the Electoral College.
This week, though, we tip our hat to Trump for weighing in, along with several thousands of tweets, emails and calls from constituents, and effectively dissuading House Republicans from trying to torpedo its independent congressional ethics board.
The Associated Press called the about-face dizzying, as GOP leaders scrambled to reverse the decision. Unanimously, we might add.
The Office of Congressional Ethics was created in 2008 after several members were suspected of bribery and corruption.
Unfortunately, there’s been no sign that such an office is no longer in need.
