President Trumps penchant for living life as if it were a reality TV show may end up getting his next season canceled.
The president faces three lawsuits from three women accusing him of sexual harassment or trying to buy their silence for past indiscretions.
Most recently, the adult film star Stormy Daniels gave an interview with the 60 Minutes news program saying she was paid $130,000 only 11 days before the 2016 presidential election to keep quiet about an alleged affair she had with Mr. Trump.
Daniels is suing to get out of a nondisclosure contract because she says Mr. Trumps personal attorney, Michael Cohen, breached it first when he admitted to paying Ms. Daniels the $130,000. Daniels also points out the president never signed the contract.
Cohen treats the $130,000 as if it were pocket change, saying when hes done countersuing Ms. Daniels for $20 million hell be enjoying an extended vacation.
Cohen continues to skirt the issue as to what the stipend was for, instead acting indignant that it be treated as anything other than business as usual.
Attorneys pay their clients debts all the time, Cohen infers.
Well, maybe in Mr. Trumps former life that was standard practice, after all, hes been sued more than 4,000 times, but as President of the United States, that flag wont fly.
Having Cohen pay Daniels hush money could be interpreted as trying to influence the outcome of a political campaign, running afoul of campaign finance laws.
Daniels also said she was in fear for her life if she spilled the beans about her alleged year-long relationship with Mr. Trump, and recalled an instance in 2011 when a stranger threatened her if she brought the subject to light.
SO NOW that we all feel perfectly filthy, whats the best course forward?
Probably to accept theres more to come. Mr. Trump, after all, has long relished his role as a playboy. That he has had extramarital affairs comes, sadly, as no shock.
Even so, damage control is in order.
Its inherent that Republican leaders insist Mr. Trump come clean and do all he can to put these sordid affairs to rest.
Whether you voted for him or not, Mr. Trump represents the country.
