Letter to the editor — April 11, 2016

Dear editor,

There was a saying, “There’s nothing wrong with the world, just some of the people in it.”

I truly believe there is opportunity for people if they just open their eyes and ears and not be lazy and afraid to go to work.

I was blessed when I had the opportunity to work for B&W Trailer Hitches for 19 years and 7 months.

If this country is looking for a working model of a company that puts its community and employees first, B&W Trailer Hitches would be it!

Just because I’m retired doesn’t mean I’m a stranger to the company. On the last Thursday last April I had dinner with all my friends at their monthly company dinner. If this country is in bad shape economically you wouldn’t know it there. When I started there in 1994 I was the eighth person hired. When I retired I was fourth on the employee seniority list. Now there are approximately 350 employees and they want to hire more!

If there is a problem in this country and the state of Kansas I would say it is a lack of leadership and common sense in our governor and Legislature. Both are set to destroy our state with their tax policies. I believe most high school students would agree everyone should pay their fair share of taxes. Our governor and Legislature are so bull-headed they won’t change our tax policies.

So my dear friends, as I said earlier, there’s your “some of the people in it.”

As always,

Robert I. Franklin,

Iola, Kan.
