Letter to the editor — June 4, 2019

Dear editor:

I like to take treats to the fire station. It is easy, because I live directly behind it.

Today I went over and I could not get in the front or back door.

Now I understand security, but here is my problem. What if someone is trying to get help or trying to get away from a bad situation? Don’t go to the fire station, you cannot get in and no one answers the door.

My question for all is, shouldn’t our fire station be a safe haven if needed?

I honestly need clarification because I have the utmost respect for the men and women who work there and do everything they can to help us.

I want no harm to come to any of those people that do so much for us, including myself, who they have transported more times than my wife likes.

I understand that there is 911, but that may not always be the fix for the situation. Who can help me understand the locked doors?

To the Iola Fire Department and the Iola ambulance service, thank you for taking care of us!

Robert Thompson,

Iola, Kan.
