Letter to the editor — May 29, 2013

Dear editor,
In a recent letter to the editor I indicated that Allen County Community Foundation (ACCF) raised over $2,000,000 to equip our new hospital. This is correct.
It does not however describe the more than three years of service by a committee of tireless volunteers known as Uniting for Excellence in raising these funds.
They began their service while our community foundation was still known as the Allen County Health Care Foundation and did much of their work while our community foundation was a completely volunteer organization.
In fact the ACCF’s executive director, Susan Michael, began her work as a volunteer for Uniting for Excellence. The $2,000,000 in funds they raised were channeled into what is now our Allen County Community Foundation and distributed to our hospital to equip the new facility.
Members of the Uniting for Excellence committee include Mary Ann Arnott, Gordon Conger, Don Copley, Jim and Karen Gilpin, Mary Kay Heard, Jan Kershner, Karen Lee, and Mary Ann Magnuson-Paterson. They deserve the undying gratitude of our community.
I would like to recognize the service of Uniting for Excellence while I encourage our community to look toward the community foundation as the “go-to” place for organized giving for our hospital and other civic projects.
John Robertson,
Humboldt, Kan.
