Dear editor,
I was pleased to see your editorial regarding KU’s willed body program. Both of my parents and my husband chose that option. I’m on the list too. I attended the memorial service after my husband died. I thought it was wonderful. There were about 200 people attending and the program was planned by the first-year medical students.
One of the professors said he told the students that the donors were their first patients. A student told us he thought he understood heart functions by studying illustrations in his textbook but then realized he was unsure of some of them a short time later.
He said, “But when I held a heart in my hands everything was suddenly very clear to me.”
