Letter to the editor — December 19, 2018

Dear editor,

I’ve written letters to the Iola Register over the many years, asking questions and seeking help of Allen County in the matter of the unsolved murder of Sally Hutton 49 years ago.

I’ve heard it said it’s a cold case because none of your family cares anymore. That is so untrue. The same goes with the death of Brian Trester. Sally and Brian will always be loved, and never forgotten by their families.

Sally was my baby sister. Brian, my nephew. And it saddens me to think someone knows how their deaths happened and are getting away with murder. And I feel in my heart, someone knows about both murders.

My Bible says, thou shall not kill. And it teaches to forgive those who hurt us.

But who are we to forgive?

We have no answer to that. The KBI told me over a year ago that they are working on Sally’s cold case, but still nothing. All around the United States cold cases of 50-60 years are being solved.

Do the lives of our lost loved ones mean nothing?

Well it does. A part of them lives on in family memory.

It’s true that Sally has been gone from my family for 49 years. The person or persons that took her life may have passed on by now.

I doubt that’s the case with young Brian. I only hope God can forgive them. I, however, find that I can’t until I have answers of who and why this was done.

Sally was only 14 years old. She never grew up to be an adult. Someone knows something. It’s time to come forward.

Still grieving,

Carolyn Henery,

Madison, Kan.
