Dear Editor,
I would like to respond to the statement made by Jim Smith in the Tuesday Iola Register that stated our Governor wants to allow guns to be carried in our schools. That is a very broad statement that should be cleared up.
I am sure that if the Governor remarked about carry in school, it would be for the teachers to be armed (concealed carry) in case of an armed threat.
The loss of life in the few shootings that have occurred in the past, was far worse because the teachers were not armed and had no way to stop a crazed gunman.
It should be the teachers who have a concealed carry license if they felt it was that necessary to do so
If I were a teacher in today’s society I would carry for myself and the protection of the students.
Paul Werle,
Iola, Kan.
