Letter to the editor — February 23, 2018

Dear editor,
We should all be proud of those kids in Florida for standing up to those spineless mortals that we call Congress.
These mortals seem to think getting money from big business and special interest groups for their campaigns is more important than saving lives.
I am not against people having guns. We just need common sense laws to keep guns out of the hands of people with mental issues.
It is disgraceful that President Trump was just a few miles from the school and made no effort to reach out to the families and friends of those murdered.
Was there Russian meddling in the 2016 election? Of course there was. Did President Trump know? Of course he did. Will anything be done about it? Of course not. Would we be better with Hillary? Yes and no. Yes, because we would still have the respect of other countries. No, because we would be buried in debt from high-priced lawyers trying to get her impeached.
The Republican Party dropped the ball back in 2000. They should have run Barbara Bush instead of her son, George. She is smart and not afraid to stand up for what she believes in. There would not have been 9/11 because Osama bin Laden would have deemed it unmanly to fight a woman. Saddam was old and weak and his people would have taken care of him. We would be buried  in a never-ending war. She would have been a great first female president.
Maude Burns,
Iola, Kan.
