Letter to the editor — August 2, 2018

Dear editor,
I would like to tell you all about a good friend of mine that is running for governor for this great state of Kansas. The friend that I refer to is Kris Kobach. I’m not going to talk about the other candidates and trash them like they are trying to do to my friend. I’m not a politician, in that, I believe that the general public is smart. I know they are smart enough to read through all the rhetoric. No, I’m going to tell about Kris on a personal level.
I got to know Kris Kobach through hunting. There is a saying, you never truly know a person until you’ve shared a hunting camp with him. There is so much to be said about that, it lets a person be themselves. You learn their ethics, their beliefs, and, I believe, what’s in their soul.
Kris has hunted right here, he’s sat at the tables in our restaraunts and visited with the people that live right here in our town. He’s stayed at my place and visited with my family and friends. All this due to the fact that we have one thing in common, the love of the outdoors and hunting.

I would like to make one thing perfectly clear, Kris is not a racist, a bigot, or a Nazi. In fact, I’ll go as far to say, that if all the people that call him this would follow Kris’s lead on not being those things, they would be less racist themselves.
Kris Kobach is pro life. This can be seen when he is with his wonderful wife Heather and his five adorable girls, Lilly, Reagan, Molly, Charlie and JoJo.
He won’t back down on the second amendment. I’ve been in every parade with him and of the tens of thousands of people I’ve seen, less than one tenth of a percent of the people disagree with him on this.
Kris is against illegal immigration, not immigration. There is a huge difference.
Kris has told me, and all the people of Kansas, that he will not cut one tax unless he cuts spending first.
The last thing I’m going to touch on is schools. I’ve been with Kris and have seen him give speeches, debate the other candidates, talk about this subject in my house to my friends, and sit one on one with Kris at my dinner table, not once has he ever said he’d cut any school funding. Not once.
Don’t believe what you see and hear in the media. I have seen firsthand how the news takes something that is so insignificant, but fits their narrative, and turn it into a worldwide story. I now have a first-hand knowledge of fake news.
I have never written to this paper on any subject other than local issues. This is my first to talk about statewide matters, but I feel obligated to pass on some of my personal insights about a great guy that I think will make a great governor.
So make sure you get out and vote. I highly recommend Kris Kobach for our governor.
Don Erbert,
Iola, Kan.
