Letter to the editor — December 30, 2015

Dear editor,
So many people, no matter their age, make New Year’s resolutions to lead healthier lives. I would like to recommend the Iola Recreation Department’s Senior-cise class as one way to not only improve one’s physical health, but mental health, too. The social aspect of the class improves one’s outlook on life.
Men and women age 40 or over are welcome to the free low-intensity class. Some people sit in chairs to do the exercises and some work out at higher levels by standing and moving around. A person can participate at whatever level feels most appropriate for his/her physical condition.
Aerobic, strength, and flexibility exercises are included in the program. Elastic bands are furnished for some of the strengthening exercises. Participants should wear comfortable clothing and bring a light weight, like a full water bottle or an unopened soup can.
The hour-long class meets Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings at 9 o’clock in the Little Theater of the large Community Building at Riverside Park. The next class is next Wednesday. Current participants will warmly welcome newcomers.
Sincerely,
Charlene Levans,
instructor,
LaHarpe, Kan.
