Dear editor,
Does Kent Thompson really believe we should call him and thank him for voting against the Affordable Care Act and preventing young people, middle class and sick people from getting health coverage?
I don’t think so!
I have two friends in Hutchinson who have Obamacare. One friend’s premium went down $300 a month and he now has way more coverage than he did on his old insurance which is a good thing because he has a pre-existing condition which is very expensive to treat. Obamacare now covers his treatments which will run $150,000 per year plus his prescriptions cost him nothing. He has what is called the platinum coverage.
The other friend’s premium went down $200 per month. He has no medical problems.
I see no reason to thank anyone who voted against Obamacare and as far as the hospitals go, the GOP has done nothing but hurt them by not expanding Medicaid. KanCare sure doesn’t seem to be working, it can’t seem to pay its bills on time which only hurts the hospitals more.
Our so-called GOP governor has just about bankrupted the state and (Secretary of State) Kris Kobach wants to steal everyone’s rights, so I see no reason to thank any Republican politician, especially those who might be working for the Koch Brothers.
Jim Smith,
Iola, Kan.
