Dear editor,
The more I think about cutting food stamps, the more unfair it seems to be.
Congress has been pounding into people’s heads that anyone using food stamps or on assistance, is just too lazy to work.
Yes, there are bad apples in every barrel, but is that any reason to throw out the whole barrel?
When you see someone using food stamps, ask yourself, “Have I walked in their shoes? Do I know why they are allowed food stamps?”
Remember, you could find yourself in the same place.
Congress is so worried about wasteful spending, maybe they should look in the mirror. Who are the hogs at the trough being fed on taxpayers’ money? That’s right, Congress.
I have just one thing to say to anyone who thinks Congress is really working for little people like us. It’s way past time for your reality check! They work only for the rich, big companies and big organizations that can support their next election. They just huff and puff and blow a lot of hot air our way.
Congress should cut their own wages the percentage they cut wages and assistance to the needy. They should pay their own health care insurance. They think the 401K thing is so great, they should use it for their retirement. That way they would no longer have their hands in the taxpayers’ pockets when they get booted out.
I think the Affordable Care Act will be a good thing for people. I’m sure it will have some adjustments. They tried to do too much too fast.
The pill bill (Medicare Part D) had problems, too, and only affected a small number of people.
The president has stepped in it big time with the keep your same insurance thing. Maybe he should use the former president’s excuse for the Iraq mess, “I was given faulty information.”
If it works for one, it should work for the other.
Maude Burns,
Iola, Kan.
