Dear editor,
We owe some people a big thank you. First, Bernadine Snodgrass. When she went out her front door Sunday morning she saw smoke coming out of our garage. She called it in quickly. Since we were at church and not home, if she had not acted so quickly we might not have a home today. And to Ed and Rita next door for giving us chairs to sit in and their cool front room in the heat while the fire department did their job, thank you.
And to the Iola Fire Department a huge thank you. We are pleased with the professional work you did in putting out the fire so quickly. But we are also thankful for the care and concern you showed us as individuals as well as our property during the whole process.
For being both professional and kind, thank you.
Sincerely,
Dave and Marcia Roos,
Iola, Kan.
Dear editor,
Id like to address three subjects.
1. Kudos to the Iola City Council. Finally, it sounds like theyre on the side of the citizens of Iola. Mayor Jon Wells has it wrong. It is the constant overspending thats feeding the fire thats burning Rome.
2. I totally agree with Mr. Van Meteren. The worst public relations a town can have is police giving out tickets. I have noticed the Sheriffs Department all over inside the city limits of Iola for the past week pulling people over. I know they can do it. I often wonder why they do it.
3. Only the editor of the Iola Register can take something as fantastic as the Iola baseball team winning the state and take it to the lowest of lows by using it to bash Rosanne Barr.
Don Erbert,
Iola, Kan.
