Dear editor,

I came into adulthood in 1952 at which time I was selected to represent my country by going to Korea, not to represent my party.

In the ’50s and ’60s I do not remember seeing and hearing slander and mudslinging between our political parties. But now that is all I see and hear, especially at election time. It gets worse each year.

We owe our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren better than this.

We, the people of the people, need to wake up, grow up and try to change our country for the better, not all of this adjudicating.

If we don’t change, it will not be a war between North and South in the United States as it was before. It is apt to be between party and party, with no winner.

We can do better than this.

Let us all be “American” and work for our country’s betterment.

Sincerely,
Elvis Reeder,
Bronson, Kan.

P.S. I also have very much respect for John McCain. He was fully for the people during the war and thereafter.

Dear editor,

Donald Trump appointed Matt Whitaker as acting attorney general to lead the collusion investigation. Whittaker is the only person in the justice department who has publicly said it was not the Russians and that Mueller should stop the investigation.

So, Trump has found a guy to cover for him on anything he may have done or will do.

Before leaving for Paris, Trump repeatedly said he didn’t know Matt Whitaker even though he has been to the White House 12 times that they know of. He also said Whitaker was a fine man.

This guy was a consultant for a company that the Justice Department fined $26 million for fraud. That to me means he was dishonest.

Trump said he picked Whitaker because he was impressed with his appearance on a CNN News broadcast. How could you appoint someone you never met or interviewed to a position this important?

This just stinks to high heaven.

After two years and 6,300 lies I am getting worn out of Trump’s 24/7 TV habit, dividing the country like I’ve never seen. Bullying, calling people some extremely bad names, especially women, Muslims, blacks and immigrants, for which he has no respect.

David Comstock,

Colony, Kan.
