Dear editor,
I feel everyone who wants to read should have access to reading material.
I am an avid reader myself and cannot imagine not being able to read a couple chapters before going to sleep.
How lucky am I, to have found a job advocating for reading. I represent Talking Books for this area. I am the Special Needs Consultant for Southeast Kansas Library System and work at the Iola public library.
I did not realize how many use this service and yet how many do not know it. My own mother would have loved this service before she passed away.
Do you know someone who would like to read but has a physical impairment making it difficult? Maybe you have a patient who would like to read but cannot see well enough. If you like to read but have trouble reading small print or holding a book, Talking Books may be the answer.
This free program provides various solutions to help a person with disabilities read. The audio/braille books and magazines come right to your door by mail and are returned through the mail at no cost to you (just put them in your mailbox for the postal worker to pick up). It is as if the library came to your home.
I just wanted everyone to know that this program is out there, so that everyone who wants to read can read.
Wanda Brown
Special Needs Consultant,
