Dear editor,
I appreciate the concerns of the Iola resident who wrote in opposition to alcohol being available to people attending events at The Bowlus. However, I’ve always been a supporter of individual liberties.
I probably identify more as a Libertarian than any other political party, and I’m very sensitive about imposing my values on others. My position is if you’re opposed to prayer in school, don’t pray in school, but don’t prevent others from doing so. If you’re opposed to drinking at the Bowlus, I support you. Don’t drink at the Bowlus, but don’t keep others who drink responsibly from enjoying an adult beverage at a performance.
Also, it’s my understanding that refreshments will be available only prior to the commencement of a performance and during intermission, if there is one.
As for the father who killed his children, the river didn’t drown the children, alcohol didn’t kill the children, and neither did the vehicle he was driving. The father killed them.
We are all responsible for our actions and we need to respect the rights of others guaranteed under the law.
