Dear editor,
The impeachment trial against President Donald Trump went just the way I was afraid it would. If the president really is innocent you would think the Republicans would have wanted witnesses to prove it. But they knew he was guilty.
Kenneth Starr, an attorney appointed to defend Mr. Trump, sucked up $40 million of taxpayers’ money when he went after then-President Bill Clinton during his 1988 impeachment trial. And here he was again with Mr. Trump’s trial, stuffing his pockets with our money. It’s a shame we can’t get a law that makes a politician pay for his own defense when he gets himself in hot water. Maybe that would cut down on some of the corruption.
It gripes me when I see Mr. Trump wasting our tax money just to get in -the spotlight when he has not paid taxes since he has been in office. He always says he’s being audited. I guess that means his bookkeepers are looking for more loopholes. How is it that the ultra-rich can find these tricks that keep them from paying their fair share of taxes?
I hope the Democrats can come up with someone that can beat Mr. Trump and Russia. I haven’t seen much promise so far.
Maude Burns,
