On Tuesday, the Register will flip the switch to a new website. The launch will be the culmination of more than six months of work with a dedicated team of web developers and our own staff. It will also bring to an end over a year’s work of our editorial team searching to provide our readers with the best digital experience possible.

After all, without our subscribers, we wouldn’t be here. We owe our proud tradition — one that dates back to 1867 — to the vision of our founders and their commitment to Iola and Allen County. But our future… that we must entrust to our own hard work and to you, our readers. Your support means the world to us, and we labor every day to honor it by covering the news and telling stories that matter.

The transition to our new website will feature several upgrades:

• A more dynamic e-edition

• Website search that dates back to 2010

• Improved image and video quality

• A simpler My Account

That’s really just the beginning. I don’t mind saying we also think the new website looks a lot better. It will be faster, more mobile-friendly and will serve us well as we look to the future.

Some of you may remember surveys we distributed via email and on our website last October. I’m proud to say we read every single one of them and carefully weighed your input in our new site’s design.

For most of our subscribers, the change should be seamless. We’ve already imported your accounts into our new site. You may need to log in again, but your password won’t change, and you’ll still receive daily emails from us.

That said, even though we have a back-up plan for a back-up plan, hiccups do occur. So please, if you notice anything on our new site that’s not as it should be, let us know. Our entire staff has been trained on the new site, so give us a call at 365-2111. You can also email my son, Tim Stauffer, at [email protected], who will attend to your concern promptly.

Our goal is to be part of Iola and Allen County’s fabric today and tomorrow. Whether it’s in our print paper or on a screen, thanks again for reading.
