A magician can pull a rabbit out of a hat or seemingly cut a comely lass in half by using distraction and manipulation.
Russia’s Vladimir Putin has honed such skills to perfection.
To divert his people’s attention from his attack on Ukraine, Putin is fabricating the myth that Russia is the victim of Western aggression and that his “special military operation” there is to preserve Russia’s future.
It’s Ukraine perpetrating “genocide” against Russia, Putin claims. And it’s Ukraine that has “forced, simply compelled Russia to start this military operation.”
You might want to grab a bucket. There’s more.
The economic sanctions targeting Russian officials and oligarchs?
That’s the West punishing everyday Russians, hence the run on common goods and staples.
The reports about Russia slaughtering innocent civilians?
Example: Two employees of a Ukraine zoo who chose to tend to the animals rather than flee Russian invaders were found dead on Tuesday.
Their bodies were found riddled with bullet holes, barricaded in a back room.
According to Putin, that’s just “fake news” geared to stir up civil confrontation.
Putin should know a thing or two about that after trying to undermine the last two U.S. presidential elections.
And after seeing how Donald Trump indeed won the 2016 race, Putin is taking a page from Trump’s award-winning victim-hood performances, be it a “stolen election,” “lawless” immigrants, wanton women, or purported voter fraud.
In America, at least we get to call a spade a spade.
In Russia, that’ll get you 15 years in prison.
