Farm City Days is upon us once again. This is a great opportunity to get out of the house with a friend, your family, or just by yourself to check out the activities.
Farm City Days is a volunteer-run operation that takes a year to make happen. Planning stage for the next year usually begins shortly after the actual event. Lots of ideas are tossed back and forth, decisions are made, meetings are held and then suddenly, its Farm City Days weekend.
Saturdays will be a fun-filled day. This year Farm City Days has an Emerald City theme. The Kansas City Marching Cobras will put on an amazing show, as will the Kansas City Celtic Pipes and Drums. From 2 to 5 there will be a cornhole tournament for all ages.
The car show is always interesting and fun and a great attraction for young and old alike.
Besides all of the activities, FCD gives people the opportunity to check out the stores around town. Its also a lot of fun because it gives everyone a chance to run into old friends, past school chums, and even family that we havent seen for awhile.
There is no hurrying at Farm City Days. Lots of strolling takes place, lots of gabbing and gawking. Mostly what you see are lots of smiling faces, especially as the parade goes by.
Humanity House will be serving up Grandma Brewingtons Chicken and Homemade Noodles all day Saturday. All proceeds from the sales help individuals and families with the high cost of utilities.
I make these noodles from a recipe that my grandma taught me when I was a little girl. She put me to work on many rainy or snowy days, making noodles in her kitchen. Grandma was probably the kindest person that I have ever known. People that knew her felt the same way. I think she would be pleased to know that we have put her recipe to good use and are able to help people because she took the time to wrangle her un-wrangleable grandchild and taught her something useful.
We hope that before you leave the Farm City Days festivities you will find one of the amazing volunteers and give them a high-five and a big thanks. Next year, when the call goes out, think about volunteering your time to help make this event happen for all of us. It really is a lot of fun to make something this big happen for so many.
Kindness matters!
