After the siege of recent rainy weather, Max Henkle on Tuesday found a 6-foot-long earthworm on his farm southwest of Colony. An instructor at Kansas State University said earthworms that long are uncommon in Kansas.

Duke Walter and Natalie Neuenswander were awarded best actor and actress Oscars, respectively, at the 28th Little Oscars Saturday night. Others receiving awards were Jim Strahle, Neil Magnuson, Jeremy Spencer, Pat Roos, Melody Shetlar, Amy Jones, Dana Rush, Jamie Greenwall and Kendra Hanson.

Lyndell Mosley, chairman of the Allen County Community College Board of Trustees, bestowed degrees on 156 graduates and was honored during the 65th annual commencement for his 27 years of service as trustee. The program also included speeches by distinguished alumni Judith Bragg, class of 1941, and Diane Hillbrant, class of 1976.

The Iola High Mustangs won the 1993 Southeast Kansas League track meet in Coffeyville Friday, defending their 1992 championship. This is the ninth league meet title in the 18 years under IHS head coach Marvin Smith.
