Dennis Hermreck of the American Legion, Gary Buettner of Russell Stover Candies, Iola Mayor John McRae and John Masterson, president of Allen County Community College, joined forces to make arrangements to light the ball diamond on the ACCC campus. One of the things I feel so good about is that a local industry, a local service organization, the college and the city have come together to help serve the community, Mayor McRae said. Russell Stover donated $10,000, the American Legion post contributed $5,000 and the city and the college each spent $21,230 on the project.

City commissioners met with Dr. Randy McDaniel, USD 257 superintendent of schools, Tuesday and agreed to help develop diamonds at the districts recreation area a block north of the middle school.
