28 — A 10-year plan to finance construction of a $150,000 city hall was presented to members of the Iola Chamber of Commerce yesterday noon by Mayor Jack Hastings. An advisory board consisting of ex-mayors and utilities commissioners was created and this board proposed that the money should come from rentals charged against the utilities departments and an ad valorem tax levy. The levy would have to be authorized by the voters and Hastings said an election would be called “as soon as possible.” The income from those two sources would be used to retire bonds issued to pay construction and furnishings cost. The new building will be built on Jackson at the intersection of North Street. The land is owned by the city.
