Winona Pauline Powell passed away Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2016 in the comforts of her home in Montrose, Colo. at the age of 95.
She was born Aug. 1, 1921 to Irl and Ella (Johnson) Smith in Allen County. She spent her childhood in the rural communities of Salem, La Harpe and Carlyle. Winona married Virgil Powell on May 24, 1942 in Allen County. They made their home in Carlyle and Iola until 2005 when they relocated to Montrose to be near their daughter. Winona and Virgil were married almost 67 years until his passing in 2008. They remained members of the Carlyle Presbyterian Church. Winona attended the First Church of the Nazarene while residing in Montrose.
Winona is survived by her daughter Peggy (Gary) Brink of Montrose; three granddaughters all of Montrose and five great-grandchildren.
There will be a memorial lunch provided by the family after church at the Carlyle Presbyterian Church for Winona at 1 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 8.
Arrangements are under the care of Feuerborn Family Funeral Service of Iola and Crippin Funeral Home and Crematory of Montrose. Private family inurnment will take place prior to the memorial luncheon where she will be laid to rest with Virgil at Highland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Carlyle Church.
