Wilma E. Mardick, 98, of Iola died today, Aug. 19, 2010, at Fountain Villa in Iola.
She was born Oct. 6, 1911, in Westphalia, to William and Lavina (Satler) O’Banion. She attended public school in Westphalia and graduated from Westphalia High School.
On Oct. 6, 1931, she married Laurence L. Mardick in Garnett. They had made their home in Iola since 1935. He died March 16, 1987.
She enjoyed bowling, University of Kansas basketball and Royals baseball. She was also an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed quilting, crocheting and projects around her home.
She is survived by a daughter, Darlene Thurman and her husband, Tom, Iola; a son, Max and his wife, Nancy, Golden, Colo.; six grandchildren, Kim Bruner, Moran, Becky Helms, Iola, Kristi Mohler, Derby, Sharolyn Stanley and Karl Mardick, Houston, Texas, and Craig Mardick, Golden; two stepgrandchildren, Jason Thurman, LaHarpe, and Laynie Wrabek, Chanute; 11 great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandsons.
A granddaughter, Julie Mardick, and a great-grandson, Kent Jackson, died earlier.
Family and friends will gather at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapels in Iola before leaving in procession for Highland Cemetery for graveside services at 11 o’clock. The Rev. Bill LaPorte will officiate.
