Wayne E. Hiser, 88, Iola, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2014, at Tara Gardens in Iola.
He was born Aug. 20, 1926, to George R. Hiser and Florence K. Zimmer.
Wayne grew up in Iola. After graduating from Iola High School in 1944, he moved to New York for 6½ months and worked at Massey-Harris. Upon returning to Kansas he attended Central College for one year then Kansas State University for one year before attending college in Iola where he received his diploma. After college Wayne worked full time for his father in the family business.
In 1948 Wayne met Oleata H. Roberts through friends and they were married June 19, 1949, at the Free Methodist Church in Iola. Wayne and Oleata celebrated 65 years of marriage this year.
Wayne and Oleata worked many years together in the family business, Hiser Implement Company in Iola, before closing the business and retiring in the spring of 1999.
Wayne is survived by his wife; daughters Sandra Hiser Garver and husband Steve of Iola; Diana Hiser Miller and husband Allen of Wichita; grandchildren Vicki Garver Smith and husband Dewayne, Michael Garver and wife Keri, David and Wesley Miller; great-grandchildren Benjamin Smith, Dalton and Kristin Garver and Logan, Vincent and Parker Miller; and Wayne’s sister, Marjorie Mentzer, and her husband, Bill.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Debra Hiser, grandson, David Garver, his parents and siblings, George R. Hiser Jr., Florence Fursman, Kathryn Regehr and Gerald Hiser.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Iola. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Waugh-Yokum and Friskel Chapel in Iola.
Memorial gifts to the Tara Gardens Memorial Fund may be left with the funeral home.
