Wanda M. Nelson, 91, Lamar, died at her home Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012, after a long illness.
Mrs. Nelson was born July 7, 1921, in Allen County to George Washington and Artie Jean (Tinsley) Alumbaugh. She was retired from working with her husband and sons as office manager in the family owned Nelson Brothers Quarry, east of Jasper, Mo. On Feb. 25, 1939, she married Carl Andrew Nelson at Iola. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Jasper, Mo.
Wanda leaves behind five sons, Jerry R. Nelson, Lamar, Mo., Robert W. Nelson, Joplin, Mo., John B. Nelson, Quapaw, Okla., Paul M. Nelson, Jasper, Mo., and James L. Nelson, Baxter Springs; two daughters, Carol A. Harman, Ocola, Fla., and Mary Nelson Cook, Lamar, Mo.; daughter-in-law Virginia Nelson, Richmond; a sister Opal Doubleday, Taos, N.M.; 22 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren.
Wanda was preceded in death by her husband Carl A. Nelson and one son, Randy K. Nelson.
Service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Daniel Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Lake Cemetery. Grandsons and great-grandsons will be pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. today at Daniel Funeral Home.
