Virginia A. Piatt, 81, of Arkansas City, mother of Martha (Marty) Meadows and her husband, David Sr., Iola, died Friday, Aug. 5, 2011, at the Medicalodges of Arkansas City.
Virginia was born June 4, 1930, to Benjamine P. and Martha A. (Albertson) Miller in Chanute. She was reared and educated in Chanute graduating from Chanute High School in 1948.
On June 2, 1948, Virginia married Albert Piatt in Chanute. The couple moved to Arkansas City in 1951, where they spent the rest of their lives together.
She was a homemaker, and for years she was involved in her children’s activities as president of the Parent Teachers Association, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. She worked at Medicalodge East until her retirement in 2002.
She is also survived by additional children, Marilyn Cain, Pflugerville, Texas, Kathy Hummingbird and her husband, Tom, Newton, and Wayne and his wife, Vera, and Rodney and his companion, Pam Lough, all of Arkansas City; two brothers-in-law, William Hays, Comanche, Okla. and George Edwards, Wichita; 15 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, 12 siblings, a grandson, David Meadows Jr., and a grandson-in-law, Bobby Anderson.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hillcrest Bible Baptist Church in Arkansas City. Jimmy McCullough will officiate. Burial will be in Parker Cemetery.
Visitation is today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home in Arkansas City.
