Virginia Ellen Larson, 75, Savonburg, passed away on Saturday, May 28, 2016, at her home surrounded by the family she loved.

Virginia was born on Oct. 11, 1940, near Urbana, to parents Alfred and Ellen Rost. During her childhood, the family resided in several Neosho County communities, ultimately settling on a farm west of Stark. She graduated from Grant High School in Stark in 1958. Following high school, she attended Clarks School of Business, Topeka, and was later employed by a Topeka law firm. 

Virginia moved to her present home when she married Leon Larson on Oct. 11, 1964. Her life was centered on her family, the farm and her faith. She was a long-time member of the Savonburg Evangelical Covenant Church. She was an accomplished gardener, cook and seamstress who frequently shared her creations with friends and family. In recent years, she enjoyed participation in the Stark Quilters Club and the Odense Friends Forever.

Survivors include her husband, Leon, of the home; three sisters, Marilyn and Larry Cutler, Greeneville, Tenn., Berva and Dale Cutler, Topeka, and Mary Shatswell and Ed Bailey, Independence, Mo.; three children, David Larson, Olathe, Natalie and Kelly Klubek, Iola, and Julie and Kevin Cook, Topeka; and five grandchildren, Emily Klubek, Erin Klubek, Sydney Cook, Anastasia Cook and Anthony Cook. She was preceded in death by her parents. 

The family offers sincerest thanks for all the prayers, cards, calls, visits and other acts of kindness offered during her brief illness.

 

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Evangelical Covenant Church west of Savonburg with burial to follow in the Swedish Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-7 p.m. Friday at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service in Iola. Memorials are suggested to the Savonburg Evangelical Covenant Church and may be left with the funeral home.
