Verna Earline Owens, 83, Chanute, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2016 in Iola.
Verna was born on Jan. 15, 1932 in Chanute, the daughter of Vaugh Brooks and Irene (Bossel) Brooks.
In 1959, Verna married Roosevelt Owens, who preceded her in death in 1984.
She worked for 26 years as a housekeeper for Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center. Verna enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed watching westerns and baseball on television and was a KU and Royals fan. Verna was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church in Chanute.
Verna is survived by a son, Russell Owens, Iola; a daughter, Rosemary Moore, Osage City; sisters, Peggy Cheney and Louise Brown; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren
Verna was preceded in death by her parents; husband Roosevelt; son Todd Owens; daughters Regina Brooks and Vanessa Owens Waller; brothers Michael Brooks and Vaughn Brooks Jr.; sister Rowana Brooks; and grandson Joaquia Brooks.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Countryside Funeral Home, Gibson Chapel, Chanute. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials to the Wings of Warriors Cancer Foundation in Iola may be left with or mailed to the funeral home at 101 N. Highland, Chanute, KS 66720.
