Verna M. Bruenger, 89, Humboldt, passed away Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015.
Verna was born Jan. 27, 1926, on the family farm east of Humboldt, the daughter of Melvin Jonas and Minnie Sophia (Binger) Baker. She grew up on the farm, attended Prairie View Grade School and graduated from Humboldt High School in 1943. She worked at Kent’s Dry Goods Store in Humboldt before she was married.
On March 11, 1951, Verna married Clarence W. Bruenger at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt. They made their home on a farm east of Humboldt until moving to town in 1969. Clarence preceded her in death April 16, 2009.
Verna was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and the Mission Of Love quilting group.
Survivors are her three children, Lyle Bruenger, Chanute, Lynn Smith and husband, Richard, Ft. Scott, and Loren Bruenger, Humboldt; one brother, Melvin G. Baker, Humboldt; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son Larry W. Bruenger, brother Clifford Baker and sister Dorothy Frevele.
Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt.
Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Humboldt.
