Sylvia Swanson, 88, of Overland Park, Kan., passed away at her home Thursday, April 3, 2025.
Born Sylvia Joan Shaffer in Winfield, Kan., on Nov. 17, 1936, she was the daughter of Charles S. and Opal Julia (Stebbins) Shaffer. Her early years saw the family living in various towns across southeast Kansas before they made their permanent home in Chanute. Sylvia graduated from Chanute High School with the class of 1955. On Jan. 30, 1960, Sylvia married Eugene Swanson in Chanute.
Sylvia is survived by her husband, Gene, of the home; her children, Bruce Swanson and his wife, Lisa, of Tucson, Arizona, Becky Venema and her husband, Todd, of Oakwood, Ohio, and Mark Swanson and his wife, D’ette, of Overland Park; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 12, at the Old Mission United Methodist Church in Overland Park. Burial will take place at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, at the Swedish Cemetery in Savonburg, Kan. Memorial contributions may be made to Old Mission United Methodist Church.
