Sterlin Ray Michael, 75, Iola, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at his home.
Sterlin was born Aug. 16, 1937, in Anderson, Mo., the son of Albert Ray and Beulah Winona (Mitchell) Michael. He moved with the family to Iola.
On Aug. 16, 1956, Sterlin married Vivian Mae Owen. They made their home in Iola. He worked for Walton Foundry for 25 years, in the oil fields, and then for USD 257 until he retired.
Survivors include his wife Vivian Michael, of the home; four sons, Tim Michael and wife, Cheri, Iola, Daniel Michael, Iola, Mark Michael and wife, Cassie, Iola, and John Michael and wife, Jeannie, Emporia; one daughter, Theresia Turner, Iola; his father-in-law, Phil Butler, Iola; a brother, Junior, of Oklahoma; two sisters, Pat Nelson, McCloud, Okla., and Mae Hayes, Topeka; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Wendoll Lee Michael, seven brothers and two sisters.
Visitations will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel, Iola. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Iola.
