Shirley Ann Evans, 55, Iola, died Monday, Sept. 8, 2014, at the home of her sister in Iola.
Shirley was born July 16, 1959, in Iola, the daughter of Floyd Eugene and Marie Anna (Kleinsorge) Ohmie. She graduated from Le Roy High School. Shirley was married to Andy Evans and they made their home in Iola. She worked for Gates Corporation for over 32 years before retiring in February of this year.
Shirley was involved with numerous community activities including Safe Base. She enjoyed watching all sports and played many of them with softball being her favorite. Shirley also had a passion for early morning bird watching. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 32 years, Andy Evans; a son, A.J. Evans, Iola; two daughters, Gail Lamb, Topeka, and Alex Dickerson and husband Damon, Lenexa; mother, Marie Ohmie, Iola; two brothers, Ron Ohmie and wife Patty, Burlington, and Jim Ohmie and wife Dorene, Iola; three sisters, Marjorie Boeckman and husband Ed, LaFayette, Ind., Marcella Waller, Goodyear, Ariz., and Sharon Thummel and husband Jerry, Iola; three grandchildren, D’Ante and Ty’a Lamb, and Drayce Dickerson and numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her father.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Wesley United Methodist Church in Iola. Memorial contributions to the Shirley Ann Evans Memorial Fund may be left with Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel, who is in charge of arrangements.
