Ruth Naomi Farmer, 96, Chanute, passed away Thursday, Nov. 15, 2018. Ruth was born on June 14, 1922 in Colony, to Albert Henry and Ellen Pearl (Livingston) Knoeppel. She grew up in Colony until she married Bert E. Farmer on Nov. 6, 1955, then relocated to Chanute where she lived the rest of her life. Bert preceded her in death on April 3, 2001.

Ruth was loving, caring, and always willing to help others. She grew up helping her parents on the family farm and firmly believed one should work hard for what they want and that all children should have the opportunity to receive an education. Ruth worked at Boeing in Kansas City during WWII and then worked with her husband as the bookkeeper for their farm. Ruth lived a busy life, and was proud of her active memberships in the Eastern Star and First United Methodist Church. She was also a proud campaign volunteer for the Republican Party. Later in her years, she developed a close, motherly relationship with her niece, Sheila Burt, and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Ruth is survived by nieces and nephews: Janice Weinzeryl and husband Mike of Kansas City, Mo., Phyllis Cameron and husband Ron of Chanute, Sheila Burt and husband Robert of Chanute, Donald Farmer of Humboldt, Johnny Farmer and wife Denise of Humboldt, Terry Farmer and wife Teresa of Humboldt, Teresa Winner and husband Shawn of Iola, Robert Knoeppel and wife Connie of Olathe and William Knoeppel and wife Mary of Olathe; numerous cousins, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bert; brother, Albert Erwin Knoeppel; and niece, Anita Browning.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Chanute’s First United Methodist Church with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Ozark Colony Cemetery in Colony.  Online condolences may be left at:  www.countrysidefh.com.
